Pros
The pros about reducing energy use is that they save more energy. They also do less greenhouse gas emissions which helps lessen Global Warming and Ocean Acidification. The economic impact is that by using less energy, saves money. With current plans to reduce energy usage, this will approximately save $11 billion over the next decade. This will ultimately save about 235 million barrels of oil for the military.
Currently, the Armed Forces are trying to do their part and reduce their waste and such. The Navy and Marine Corps have a Program called "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". This is aimed to produce more awareness and how to take proper care of their waste.
At Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, there is a large solar farm, that powers the buildings and powers roughly 25% of the base's powers. Also, the Air Force at Nellis Air Force, they traded grass for rocks to decorate the base. Grass is a "thirsty" consumption of water, and is unnecessary, especially in the hot Nevada climate.
